In regions of active N&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;2&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt; fixation, the two processes partially cancel each other out, and the net signal underestimates gross denitrification. Dissolved N&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;2&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt; measurements are highly sensitive to atmospheric contamination from air bubbles during sample collection and handling, requiring careful degassing protocols. Temperature and salinity corrections for equilibrium N&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;2&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt;/Ar must be accurate.&lt;br /&gt;
