Model type
Approach: Mechanistic, time-dependent or steady, empirically driven
Computational demand: Low (immediate result on a local machine) and incorporable in global ocean simulations.
Typical physical scales: Relative units focusing on elements: e.g., (mol N in protein mol C-1). When incorporated into an ocean simulation, the unit can be converted to concentrations: e.g., (μM N in protein) by multiplying by the organic C concentration.
Appropriate timescales: Any, depending on the scientific question. e.g., steady state, short laboratory scale, annual, century scale.
